When did you join Ascentant Accountancy?
I haven’t been here long – I joined in October last year.
How did you get into accounts?
I sort of fell into the world of finance and have now been in it for around 10 years. I originally worked in travel and other customer service roles before bookkeeping.
Before joining Ascentant, I was working as a bookkeeper but was made redundant. After taking some time to figure out my next steps, I started my AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualifications – and not long after that, I joined Ascentant Accountancy.
What does your role involve?
I mainly focus on bookkeeping, usually using Xero. I keep track of clients’ income and expenses so they’re up to date ahead of their tax returns.
That includes categorising transactions for VAT, completing bank reconciliations and making sure everything is compliant with HMRC regulations.
A lot of our clients are highly skilled and don’t have the time to manage bookkeeping themselves, so it’s great to be able to take that off their plate so they can focus on running their businesses.
I work closely with Kimberley Ross, Client Manager, and often help out Paula White, Payroll Manager.
What are you most proud of so far?
In such a short time, I’m really proud of the relationships I’ve built – both with clients and the team.
What do you love most about your job?
I really enjoy the customer service side – being able to help clients and make things easier for them is really rewarding. I also love learning new things, whether that’s from Kim or through my AAT studies.
What’s it like to work at Ascentant Accountancy?
It’s a down-to-earth, friendly and approachable place to work. I’ve felt really welcomed – no question is ever too small or too silly.
Why should clients choose Ascentant Accountancy?
For exactly those reasons – we’re accessible, friendly and we make accounts simple to understand.
What’s your comfort TV show?
Sort Your Life Out with Stacey Solomon – it always makes me want to declutter everything!
What’s your most controversial food opinion?
I don’t like meat! Bacon sandwiches are definitely not for me.
If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?
Judith Chalmers – I love to travel.
