It’s time for another ‘Meet the team’ – where we shine a light on the people behind the numbers. Next up is Paula White, our Payroll Manager, making sure payday runs like clockwork and supporting our clients with expert, down-to-earth advice.
When did you join Ascentant Accountancy?
I’ve been with the team since September 2024.
How did you get into payroll?
I started work as a receptionist and they asked if I wanted to help out with purchase ledger, which led onto me lending a hand with timesheets also. Once I left that company, I got a job in payroll and I’ve been doing it ever since – over 25 years now!
What does your role involve?
I process payroll for over 65 companies, conduct auto enrolment for pensions and process annual confirmation statements for Companies House. I also deal with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) payments and refunds through HMRC. Recently I’ve also been supporting clients with ID verification. It’s a busy role!
What are you most proud of in your role so far?
I pride myself on keeping ahead of changes in compliance which apply to all the different aspects of my job. It’s a lot of information but essential to ensure accuracy for our clients.
What do you love most about your job?
I really enjoy the variety that it brings. I love the challenge of working on the more complex sectors such as law firms, it can be tricky but it’s very rewarding. I’m also very proud to have lived in Ripley for 35 years, so it means a lot to work for a company that does so much within the local community and is genuinely committed to making a difference.
What’s it like to work at Ascentant Accountancy?
It’s the best job I’ve ever had, genuinely the friendliest place I’ve ever worked. Everyone helps each other out and we socialise together outside work. Working with such a friendly team is such a joy.
Why should clients choose Ascentant Accountancy?
We’re approachable and don’t speak jargon. We break things down simply for clients and care deeply about providing an excellent service.
What’s your “comfort TV show”? Not a show but I love 80s pop videos!
What’s your most controversial food opinion? Cake should be eaten at any time of day (breakfast included!)
If you had to swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be? A zookeeper – I love animals, especially elephants and tigers.
